La Noria - How it works
As you can see this is a way to get water out of a well, an animal, suprise suprise a donkey, turns the horizontal wheel which turns the vertical to draw the water up in clay pots and pour it into the trough. From there it runs directly to a small basin where it can be collected for drinking water. Next it runs to a 'lavadero' where clothes can be washed and from there to the fields for irrigation. At each stage the water becoming a little less clean.
